Living a whole life.
This Week’s Brave New Girls Podcast Guest: Mellissa Laycy on Rewiring Your Inner World
How can you change your internal narrative at a cellular level so that your entire world transforms- from the inside out?
If you’re seeking deep, lasting transformation- not just for your health, but for your entire life- this week’s Brave New Girls podcast guest, Mellissa Laycy, has some helpful insights. A leading voice in holistic health, Mellissa blends gut health, subconscious reprogramming, and biohacking into a soul-meets-science method of transformation.
But this wasn’t always her path.
For over two decades, Mellissa lived with suicidal depression, eating disorders, anxiety, PCOS, and debilitating gut issues. She tried traditional medicine, but it wasn’t until she journeyed through India, explored Ayurveda, and later immersed herself in deep subconscious healing that things finally began to shift.
Gut health was her entry point- it boosted her energy, improved her mood, and cleared up many physical symptoms. But even after years of clean eating and expert-level nutrition, the darkness would still return.
She discovered, the issue wasn’t just in her body. It was in her programming.
“The subconscious mind,” Mellissa explains, “is where our emotional pain and behavioural patterns live. Until we go back to the root- often in early childhood- and rewrite those stories, the same emotional triggers will continue to sabotage our lives.”
Now, Mellissa’s work focuses on helping people drop into the theta brainwave state- the brainwave we live in from birth to age 7, when our programming is formed. Through guided subconscious journeys, parts work (a modality that dialogues with inner protector selves), and rewiring old memories, she helps people dissolve decades of stored pain and re-emerge with a new story.
And so her coaching practice works with a combination of grounded science and emotional depth, walking people through how to feel safe in their bodies, trust their gut, and reconnect with joy.
Real healing is never surface level. Affirmations won’t stick if your inner child is still carrying trauma. Your addictions or compulsions may be trying to protect you- and the most radical thing you can do is to turn toward them with love, not shame.
Our triggers are our treasures. They’re the roadmap home.
Brave New Girl- How to Be Fearless.
10 Actionable Steps for a better future.
Start with the body – Rebuild gut health with clean, whole foods. It calms the nervous system and boosts mental clarity.
Create safety – Healing starts when the body feels safe. Use calming practices like breathwork, grounding, and gentle yoga.
Drop into theta – Use guided meditation to access the subconscious and explore early programming.
Practice ‘parts work’ – Ask your inner critic or compulsive parts: What do you need? How can I help you feel safe?
Feel your feelings – Instead of pushing away emotion, locate it in the body and gently sit with it.
Dance to release – Movement drops you into the body and helps emotions move through you.
Use tactile techniques – Try butterfly tapping (a nervous system reset where you gently tap your chest with crossed hands).
Stay consistent – Like going to the gym, rewiring requires regular practice. Don’t stop after one session.
Be gentle – Resistance to change is normal. Go slowly, lovingly, and without judgment.
Redefine courage – True bravery is turning toward yourself—even when it hurts.
When you shift the subconscious stories you tell yourself, you change your health, your happiness, and your entire life.
