Courage to show up as you.

Lucia Hargasova’s Call to Be Ourselves.

Every week I ask my Brave New Girls podcast guest how they define courage.
This is how Lucia Hargasova, a Human Design coach, thinks of it:

“Being brave starts within your heart, and it's about believing and showing up despite the feedback, despite what your mind tells you—that you can't, you shouldn't, you're not good enough… It’s an ongoing experiment of life and showing up so we can expand.”

Lucia’s definition speaks directly to what courage feels like in the body—not a loud, external act, but a steady, soul-led decision to keep showing up in alignment with who we truly are. Her work in Human Design is all about helping people understand how they’re wired—energetically, emotionally, mentally—and then live from that place, even when it goes against cultural expectations or conditioning.

Courage is about being real. It’s about coming back to the truth of who you are, again and again, especially when the noise of the world tells you to be something else. It’s about trusting that living from your unique design- even if it means going slower, being more sensitive, or taking a different path- is not only valid but vital.

Lucia’s own life illustrates this. For years, she lived out of alignment with her Human Design, trying to succeed in ways that left her exhausted and burnt out. It wasn’t until she reclaimed her introverted, nature-connected, creative essence and combined it with her love of connection and community, that she began to thrive.

She reminds us that authentic transformation doesn’t come from doing always doing more, achieving faster, or pushing harder. It comes from being brave enough to pause, listen, and honour our inner wisdom- even when it’s quiet.

So how do we grow this kind of courage in our everyday lives?

Dare to do things differently, for a happier, healthier, impactful life.

Here are practical ways to embrace courage & support a healthier, more sustainable world:

10 Actionable Steps to Build Courage:

  1. Connect with Your True Self
Use tools like Human Design, journaling, or therapy to explore who you really are beyond the noise.

  2. Own Your Energy
Tune into how you feel physically and emotionally in different spaces. Trust your body’s signals.

  3. Undo Conditioning
Identify patterns you’ve inherited that no longer serve you. Replace them with beliefs that honour your truth.

  4. Rest When You Need To
Courage includes stepping back. Create space for stillness, healing, and reflection.

  5. Act Aligned
Make choices based on your values and inner knowing, not external pressure or comparison.

  6. Ground Yourself Daily
Anchor into practices like breathwork, movement, or time in nature to stay connected and steady.

  7. Express Who You Are
Use your voice, creativity, and style to embody your essence—even if it challenges the status quo.

  8. Open to Invitations
Especially important for Projectors—wait to be recognised, then respond with your full light.

  9. Forgive Yourself Often
Growth isn’t linear. Courage includes compassion for your past selves and current stumbles.

  10. Surround Yourself with Real Ones
Build a support system that celebrates your authenticity and encourages your growth.

True courage is not about pushing through fear—it’s about showing up as your most authentic self, again and again.
