Courage to tune in.

Every week I ask my Brave New Girls podcast guest how they define courage.

This is how Jess Holley, a Quantum Alchemy Crystal Bowl Sound Practitioner, thinks of it:

“Courage is showing up. It’s the willingness to feel, to soften, to be seen. Not to push through or battle something, but to open. To trust that healing begins when we allow ourselves to receive.”

Jess offers courage as a gentle strength, the kind that begins quietly, inside the body, through breath, sound, presence.

When Jess recovered from major surgery, it was listening, and tuning in that helped her healing process. A dream led her to crystal bowls, and following that intuitive nudge, despite not knowing how it would turn out, was her first act of courage. She leaned into the unknown, took up space in a new way, and in doing so, found her life’s purpose.

As we spoke, it became clear that courage isn’t always about being bold in the external world. Sometimes, it’s just about staying still. Sitting in discomfort. Saying yes to a new path. Saying no when it doesn’t feel right. Showing up even when your body wants to run.

Courage can be soft. It can be nurturing. It lives in the breath before the action. It lives in our ability to receive sound, love, support.

So how do we grow that kind of courage in our own lives, the kind that heals and uplifts, body, mind and soul?

Jess Holley COURAGE

Dare to do things differently, for a happier, healthier, impactful life.

Here are practical ways to embrace courage & support well beings on a well planet:

10 Actionable Steps:

  1. Create space to listen
Begin each day in quiet. Breathe deeply. Let your inner guidance come through.

  2. Open to the unknown
Say yes to what feels aligned, even if it’s uncertain. Trust the path will reveal itself.

  3. Use sound to support you
Try crystal bowl healing, 432 Hz music, or a live sound bath to regulate your nervous system.

  4. Rest without guilt
Choose rest as a radical act of self-care. You’re allowed to pause without earning it.

  5. Ask for help
Let someone in. Vulnerability is brave. You don’t have to do it all alone.

  6. Ground yourself with ritual
Light a candle, hold a crystal, take a breath. Let small rituals anchor your day.

  7. Express yourself honestly
Journal your truth. Move your body. Speak up. Expression is healing.

  8. Surround yourself with soul-nourishing people
Build a circle of support that sees and celebrates the real you.

  9. Start again, gently
Every new beginning counts. Self-compassion builds resilience.

  10. Embody the feeling
Let courage live in your body, through breath, movement, stillness, or sound.

Jess Holley redefines courage as a soft strength born from presence, sound and self-trust, one that heals and empowers from the inside out.
