Growth is coming back.

This week on the Brave New Girls podcast, I spoke with Jess Holley, a Quantum Alchemy Crystal Bowl Sound Practitioner.

Jess holds space for others with such grace, but in our conversation, she opened up about the real, behind-the-scenes challenges she faces. Jess reminds us that healing is a daily, imperfect practice.

She told me that her biggest wellbeing challenge is keeping her nervous system balanced. Like many of us, she’s juggling multiple roles, entrepreneur, creative, healer, woman navigating the pressures of modern life. And she admits, some days she forgets to follow her own advice.

“Sometimes I get pulled out of alignment,” she shared. “I’ll notice tension creeping in or that I’ve gone a whole day without a proper breath. But it’s okay, it’s not about being perfect. It’s about coming back to myself.”

So what does “coming back” look like for Jess?

It starts with awareness, catching the early signs of stress, like shallow breathing or overwhelm. Then, she reaches for her tools. Some are simple: a few minutes with her crystal bowls, stepping outside to breathe, moving her body intuitively. Others are deeper rituals: sound healing, Ayurvedic self-massage, journaling, or just allowing herself to lie down with her hand on her heart.

What’s key, she says, is not making it another pressure point. Wellness is a rhythm. Some days are messy. Some are still. All of them are human.

And that’s where we can learn so much from Jess’s approach.

We often wait until we hit a breaking point to “do” self-care. But what if we built in mini moments of alignment every day? What if we didn’t need to be in crisis to justify rest, or pleasure, or time to simply be?

Jess invites us to rethink the way we approach our wellbeing, not as another thing to fix, but as a relationship to nourish.

Ten Actionable Steps for Building Wellbeing

  1. Pause when tension rises. Notice your breath. Soften your shoulders. Say, “I’m safe.”

  2. Start your morning with sound. Play 432 Hz music or a singing bowl to set your energy for the day.

  3. Create a one-minute ritual. Light a candle, breathe deeply, repeat a mantra. Let it become a touchstone.

  4. Step into nature. Even a five-minute walk shifts your nervous system into balance.

  5. Feel before fixing. When emotions arise, let them move through your body without judgment.

  6. Use intuitive movement. Dance, stretch, sway- whatever your body asks for.

  7. Let go of the “shoulds.” Choose what nourishes you, not what trends dictate.

  8. Keep a mini wellness toolkit. Yours might include essential oils, crystals, journal prompts or breathwork.

  9. Rest without apology. Taking a break doesn’t require explanation. Your worth isn’t tied to productivity.

  10. Begin again daily. You don’t need to wait for Monday. Every moment is a new invitation to come back to yourself.

Jess Holley reminds us that wellbeing is the practice of returning to ourselves, gently, day by day.
